Project Type

Education

Date

April 2023

Role

Dr. Paulina Wong, professor of Lingnan University’s Science Unit

Date

12-13 August 2021

Led by Dr. Paulina Wong, professor of Lingnan University’s Science Unit, POLLUTION DETECTIVES is a in-person coding camp designed for a group of 30 primary 4 & 5 students to learn about existing environmental issues and to teach them how to build an air pollution detector using Micro:bit coding. Micro:bit is a pocket-sized computer that introduces how software and hardware work together with LED light display, buttons, sensors, and many input/output features that, when programmed, allow the programmer to interact with the world. Students were invited to experiment detecting pollution rates after building their own air pollution detectors and were successfully able to determine the highest and lowest pollution rates in multiple areas in the vicinity of Lingnan University.
