About the event
This is a multi-month-long project aiming to promote diversity, equity and inclusion #DEI among local and ethnic minority communities in Hong Kong. Kicked off on 23 December 2021, led by a core group of HKMIEF members, Jeffrey Andrews (Christian Action social worker), George Chen (Honorary Senior Fellow of HKU’s Centre of Civil Society and Governance), Paul Chan (Walk in Hong Kong’s CEO), Vivek Mahbubani (Standup comedian), over forty students from five local secondary schools joined together to learn about Hong Kong’s cultural diversity through a series of in-person and virtual tours to cultural and historical heritage sites in Hong Kong, meetings with active advocates of ethnic minority rights, and art workshops of Indian culture. To conclude the project, all participants were invited to work in small groups, to produce a video that promotes a selection of Hong Kong-based NGOs that serve ethnic minority communities and advocates the values of #DEI as if they were key opinion leaders (KOLs).
